Motorcycle Repair: directional fuse?, shovel head, iron head

Question
Just had my 1983 Sportster XLH insected here in NYS. no prob.  the other day I found that my LEFT directional signal was not going on.  I ruled out the bulb being the problem when both front and back directionals were not blinking.  I know this might be as easy an answer as there can be...but as a new rider trying to get into it, I don't have many places to go to find out.  Is this most likely a fuse issue?  And where is the fuse located?   One other question I had was...what id the difference between an Ironhead, and a shovelhead?  I can't get the story anywhere on line... thanks

Answer
It cant be a fuse, because the fuse works both sides. With a test light check the socket to make sure you have power going to the bulbs. If not then follow the power all the say to the button to find the problem.
An iron head is a shovel head. The early sportsters had heads made out of iron instead of alumnium. That is where they got the name iron head, but its still a shovel. The term shovel was usually used on the big bikes
Good luck and happy riding
