Motorcycle Repair: oil leaking from breather on my 1200!, sportster custom, vent tube

Question
Hello Mike, and greetings from a fellow buckeye! I have a 2006 Harley 1200 sportster custom, and all the sudden, there is oil leaking out of my breather! It has 3500 miles, and the only modification I did to it is I had synthetic oil installed, and I installed a jet kit about 2000 miles ago. I took off the breather, and it seems to be coming in thru the rear vent tube. I believe that the tube goes into the head. I complained to Harley about excessive ticking at the 1000 mile service, and they said it was noisey, but within spec. Is this related? Or perhaps valve blow by? Harley likes to blow a lot of smoke up my ass every time I bitch, you seem pretty straight up. Thanks for your help, Bill

Answer
No it is not realated to the ticking. Its blowby in the topend. your heads vent to the air intake so you dont build up pressure. When the air is vented a little mist of oil goes with it, which builds up and looks like a leak
there are some aftermarket kits you can buy to reroute the hose going to the air cleaner which will vent to the bottom of the bike
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
