Motorcycle Repair: Clutch Cable replacement, 82 FXWG, clutch cable, cable replacement

When replacing the clutch cable on the FXWG,  what are the specifics to look for when ordering the cable?  bike is '82 fxwg.  93"  with heavy mods.  have installed 16 inch apes on 2 inch risers.  need to replace the cable with a longer unit but have trouble getting the right size.  the one i got is 65" overall length  the cable housing, with adjuster thread that gose above transmission is 54"  end to end not counting the cable.  unable to get adjusment w/ this all the way out. should be about half way out and 13/16" clutch arm to top of trans cover. can you help?

Get a buddy to help you and measure the length cable you need. Cables are measured from end to end of the cable, not the housing. You could also install the one you hae in the trans and then measure how much more need since you know the length of the one you have.
