Motorcycle Repair: cl350 valve adjustment, pivot point, clock positions

Question
The valve adjuster eccentrics on the 350CL engine have small marks adjacent to the screw driver slot. The eccentrics will adjust the valve clearance properly at two locations. I believe there was a preferred location for the mark, either towards the outer or towards the centerline of the engine. Do you recall? When the mark is towards the outside the rocker arm pivot point is slightly closer to the valve and when it is towards the centerline the pivot is slightly closer to the cam.

Thanks,
Russ

Answer
Russ, sounds like you already have it figured out. The little index marks go at 8 and 4 o'clock positions, when viewed from each side. That will extend the rockers outwards, increasing the leverage/lift at the valve.

Note that, depending on the serial numbers, the dyno and clutch cover gaskets can collapse internally and shortcircuit the oil pressure to the top end. Replace the gaskets or at least check their condition.
