Question -
Hi Mike, have 02 lowrider 95 inch motor and it only charges at a hi rpm and just enough to keep the bike running and its not charging the battery at all. And while my battery was going  dead the first time the engine would knock when i started it up and would gradually go away after a minute and its been continuing to do that. So i put a new battery in it since i was stuck in sturgis and the new battery lasted about 12 starts and 200 miles so i was back to push start so i figure i put on about 800 miles since the bike started knocking and it has to be the same time i lost my charging system. So either my bike is a pile of junk or its something fairly easy i hope. Thanks, Chris

First thing you need to do is test your staor to see if its good. If your stator passes the tests then your regulator is bad.
As to the knocking, its probably related to the low battery.
Good luck and happy riding

Answer
The two things you need are a OHM meter and a AC volt meter. Start by check for ground at the pins of the stator. One pin to ground and then the other. If it pases that test then start the bike and at the pins of the stator you should get around 60 AC volts at 2000RPM. If it passes then the regulator is bad. If it fails then the stator is bad
Good luck and happy riding
