Motorcycle Repair: bike not firing properly, poor conductivity, arc test

Question
I have an 82 cm450a hondamatic that is not firing properly. The bike turns over fine and all of the other electrical system seems to work fine (lights, etc.) But the plugs will not continuously fire. They fire as soon as I hit the starter and generaly again as soon as I let off of the starter. But they don't fire in between. Any idea?
thanks

Answer
Hi Ray,

If the spark plug arc test was performed by removing plugs and grounding them against the engine, I suspect the problem may be poor conductivity (poor ground).

Otherwise, I would need to perform a few tests to accurately diagnose the problem.
