Motorcycle Repair: adjusting lifters, pushrod, 5th gear

Question
Mike good news the oilpump is fix on our 1986FLH now we have adjustable lifters in it I think they need to be adjusted because you can here them ticking when you ride my question to you is how do you adjust the lifters so it quiets them down
                Thank you kim

Answer
I am going to assumn that you have hydrolic lifters not solids.
Get the rear end up off the ground. Remove the plugs and put the bike in 5th gear. remvoe the clip on the pushrods covers and slip the cover up so you can see the pushrod. now starting at the front exhaust rotate the wheel until the pushrod is all the way down. Now tighten the pushrod  up a few turns. Let is sit for about 15 minutes to let it bleed down. When you come back and check it and you can turn it in your fingers you need to tighten it again and do the waiting. What you are trying to do is bleed it all the way down until its tight. Once it wont bleed anymore now turn it just until you can turn the pushrod between you fingers and then go one more turn. Now its set. Go to the next one and so on.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
