Motorcycle Repair: Electrical Lighting Problem, yamaha fzr 600, 1989 yamaha fzr 600

Question
Hi,
I have a 1989 Yamaha FZR 600. All lights were working fine, then all of a sudden only the running lights won't work. Headlight works. brake lights work, turn signals work. I can't find a fuse that is blown. I was reading about a rectifier/regulator and, it doesn't say that that part is the problem, but it keeps making reference to "checking your lights". It asks, "Are the running lights working?" Which the answer is no, they're not. So is the rectifier/regulator the problem? Or, is there another problem that caused this and is now just putting stress on the RR? Bike starts ok.
There is a main fuse, it's ok. There is something called a relay assembly. I unplugged it and the headlight and turn signals still worked so I'm guessing that's not the problem?

Oh, this is important I think. Sometimes when I turn the key on, the tail goes on for a couple of seconds, then goes off again and stays off. The other day I got it to do that about 5 times. So I'm guessing that the connections aren't bad, especially because the brake light works fine?
Please help!
Thanks.

Hi Richard,

Do you have a copy of the service manual? If so, which brand.

Do you have a multimeter? If so, which type?

I return tech information and test files by email. There was no email address with your question as requested and explained in my instructions.
