Motorcycle Repair: Changing front sprocket, clutch adjustment, kawasaki 750

Question
Hi Mark,I recently bought a 1980 Kawasaki 750 E1 (four) and it needs a new #630 o-ring chain and sprockets. I loosened the 4 10 mm screws holding the cover on and removed the gear shift lever. What doI need to do from this point? Do I need to remove the nut and snap ring from the clutch adjustment screw? Thank you for your help, Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

Leave the cover and clutch cable together. Let it rest on the ground or hang it with something.

The front sprocket nut should have a lock washer. The washer should have one side folded up onto the side of the nut. Bend this side down and then use a air impact tool to remove the nut.

Removing the nut with hand tools may be difficult. If you have to use hand tools, put the transmission in second gear and apply the rear brake while turning the front sprocket nut.

Respectfully,
