Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki intruder wont start, intruder 250, eric gorr

Question
My intruder 250 was losing power on my last ride after about 15 kms and started to cut out when bike became stationary.

Since getting the bike home, I have not been able to start it again. I have drained the carb and that all looks fine. What next?

Answer
Hi Michelle,

First thing to do is get a copy of the service manual (repair manual). The service manual has illustrated procedures for testing, troubleshooting, maintainance and repairs.

Use a process of elimination when troubleshooting.

This can be rather lengthy and can take much time to text here. That's why I return tech information files by email. There was no email address with your question as requested and explained in my instructions.

Was the Intruder stored over the winter or not used for two weeks or more? If so, fuel left in the carburetors may have varnished and is causing problems.

Varnished carbs is very common amd requires thoroughly cleaning the carbs and fuel system to restore performance.

Learn about reading spark plugs at the following websites:

Remove the spark plug(s) and inspect them. Compare them to plug images on the above websites. Clean or replace the spark plugs accordingly.
