Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Honda Recon 250 ATV - Clutch Slipping, clutch friction, clutch shoes

Question
I have a 1998 Honda Recon 250 ATV and the clutch seems to slip when going uphill in higher gears when trying to accelerate. In lower gears acceleration is OK without slippage. Have replaced the centrifugal clutch drum and one way clutch which did not solve the problem. Centrifugal clutch shoes appear like new. Change clutch friction discs and plates appeared OK and were within tolerances as were springs.

Any suggestions where to look? Email: kevint@netscape.ca

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Other than a clutch adjustment, I cannot think of anything else that would cause the problem that you haven't already checked.

If the Recon's load limits were exceeded while riding uphill, that may explain why there's no defective parts and the problem was present. I dunno for sure.

Visit "www.atvfrontier.com" and post your question there. Maybe other Recon owners have experienced the same problem and know the fix.
