Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki lt 80, suzuki lt 80, filter drain

Question
My daughter tried starting her quad one day by pushing starter button for 2 minutes straight. It pumped out 2 gallons of gas on garage floor and now when you push the button nothing happens. I tried replacing starter relay which was making a clicking sound but no luck. I tapped starter also.
Thans for your time.

Answer
Hi Don,

From the narrative description, there's very little information for me to go on. The model year isn't even included.

It helps to know some history to diagnose and determine what you'll need to do. We get what we pay for.

In any case, consider the following:

1) Remove the spark plug. Try rotating engine to pump fuel from cylinder.
2) Drain engine oil and remove oil filter.
3) Remove the fuel tank and inspect for defects.
4) Remove the carburetor, inspect and thoroughly clean as necessary.
5) Remove the battery and test. Charge or replace the battery accordingly. To avoid burning the motor, never cause the starter motor to work longer than 10-15 seconds. Allow time to cool between starting attempts.
6) Inspect and clean air filter. Drain airbox catch tube if necessary.
7) reassemble and try starting. If it fails to start and run properly, have a local tech inspect the problem.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
