Motorcycle Repair: Bike wont start after running, coolant level, vacuum leak

Question
I have a Susuki Katona 600 1999.  I asked someone what is it when you run your bike for a while and when the enginge gets warmed up.  it reves high.  and the longer you run it it runs high. i say about 2500 to 4500 rpms.  the motorcyle runs fine when i ride it but when i come to a stop it reves high.  and then when i park it  for about 5 min and try to restart it.  it will not start up.  however once the bike is cooled off it starts back up. do you think it is the coolent or one of the sensors of the bike.  i dont know where to located the coolent resovior.  how do i check the coolant level...  Help!

Answer
Hi Alan,

I suspect the cause of the problem is one or more of the following:

Improper idle adjustment
Carburetor sychronization out of service limits
Intake air vacuum leak
Varnished carbs
Other

I doubt that the cooling system is faulty. The engine is oil cooled. A fan aids with cooling oil. It's located behind the oil cooler.

Get a copy of the service manual (repair manual). The manual has illustrated procedures for servicing your Katana. The manual will pay for itself with the first repairs you perform.
