Motorcycle Repair: 1977 Suzuki GS 750 -- wont start, suzuki gs 750, clutch side

Question
Mark,  I recently bought a '77 Suzuki GS 750.  It was starting fine but now I'm not getting any fire from the coils.  Could they have both went bad at the same time or could something else be causing the problem?

                            Thanks,

Answer
Hi Arnie,

Ignition coils rarely fail. I've seen four defective coils over the past twenty five years. Both coils were found defective in only one of those occasions.

I suspect a problem with one or more of the following:

Defective charging system/battery
Ignition breaker points/condensors
Defective wiring/connector
Loose wiring/connector
Defective ignition switch
Defective engine on/off switch
Defective starter button
Defective safety switch (clutch/side stand/neutral)
Other problems...
