Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki GS 550 (1978) cam chain adjustment, suzuki gs 550, valve clearances

Hi there I need to know how to tension the cam chain on my 78 gs 550 I've been told the engine has to be in a certain position so as to have the cams in the right place before adjusting the tension, can you tell me what position to set the engine to? also I need to know valve clearances and points gaps.  Cheers.

Get a copy of the service manual for this information. Many public libraries have repair manuals.
