Motorcycle Repair: brake light not working (front brake only), throttle assembly, test light

Question
Stationed overseas so can't really drive my bike to a shop. My brake light works fine for the rear brake but not the front. I'm assuming it's the switch located in the throttle assembly behind front brake lever. Any suggestions on how to change it. Do you think it's something I should attepmt with my limited skilss or should I take it to a British shop and pay $250 (thier estimate) ?

Answer
First thing you need to do is check to see if you have power goiing to the switch. Using a test light check for power. If you do then check the other side to see if you have power going away from it. If you do then the switch is bad and needs replaced.
I need to year of the bike so I know what switch you have.
