Motorcycle Repair: jump starting, kawasaki zxr250, motorcycle battery

Question
Hi i own a kawasaki zxr250, 1989.

One day my bike wouldn't electric start so i tried to jump start it with car batt. What i did is connect red to red, black to black. The car was off. The lights on the bike appeared brighter when this was connected. Everything is fine up to now. Then i try to electric start the motorbike, it's about to turn over and fire but then something blows up. What would have blown up? What did i do wrong? have i seriously damaged my bike?

I can push start it fine, but now cannot electric start it.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Answer
Leo, a car battery has alot more crnaking amps than a motorcycle battery and most likey blew a fuse. i would check the starter realy, im not sure if there was a fuse that year on it but should be and sounds like it. let me know what you find out and ill take a closer look at the wiring schematic.
