Question
Thanks for getting back to me so quick...can you tell me which tools I would need?  I may be able to borrow them from friends.  Thanks.

Question -
I ride a 2006 Dyna Low Rider and put forward controls on it about a month ago.  The instructions said to wedge the gear lever from the mid controls in behind the linkage of the forward controls and then pop a beauty cap on the portion of the gear that protrudes from the primary cover.  The wedging didn't work...the mid control lever doesn't just fit behind or in front of the forward control shift lever and I have since lost the beauty cap which is supposed to hold everything snug and make it "look good".  I want to remove the linkage from the mid controls entirely and be done with it. I don't see myself coming up with the cash to buy a new primary cover (one without the existing hole for the mid control).  How would I go about doing this?  A friend of mine figured it wouldn't be too difficult to remove the outer and inner primary, pull the lever and then reassemble using a couple o-rings and chrome bolt of sorts to fill in the hole.  My husband, on the other hand, thinks there is too much involved and feels this would be a total nightmare not worth dealing with.  His solution to this problem is tying the lever up with some leather to the frame of my new bike...not the solution I was looking for!  I figure I can manage a project like this if I know what needs to be done.  Can you give some instruction?  Thanks for your time and any advice you may have.

You can remove the inner primary to get the shaft out and then plug the hole with a bolt and nut with a rubber gasket on both sides.
The problem your going to have is you need some special tools to remove the clutch basket as well as the motor sprocket nut. So you might not be able to do the work yourself.
Good luck and happy riding

Answer
Your going to need a inpact wrench to remove the motor sprocket nut with a 1 1/2 socket. The clutch basket will have to be pulled as well as the starter motor. the clutch basket, after removing the bolts, should slide off but sometimes it has to be pulled using a puller.
