Motorcycle Repair: Battery Charging - 2001 Suzuki Intruder VS 800, suzuki intruder, exhaust pipes

Question
I need to charge my battery the 2001 Suzuki Intruder has a weird battery placement, very difficult to get to, it is mounted in a box between the two exhaust pipes. I can see the positive ground, but not the negative ground? Question can I trickle charge without the neg ground cable on the battery, eg on the frame instead? Or will I need to drop the battery out of the cycle to charge it?

Answer
Hi Mike.

If you refer to the owner's manual and the repair manual you will see that the battery negative ground is a long cable which extends out when you remove the battery.  Yes, it's wierd, but it's the only solution for where they placed the battery.

In answer to the real question, yes, you can trickle-charge that way, but you must make sure that the negative connection is solid to the battery and not a tenuous connection to ground.

Good luck and ride safe.
