Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Honda Shadow VT700, clutch cable, honda shadow

Question
Today I was riding my bike and it felt like when I would pull back on the throttle that it would not go like it should.  The RPMs would go up but it felt like it wasn't cathcing all the way.  I continued to ride not knowing what was going on.  I stopped and then it would not engage and roll foward.  After getting it picked up by a truck.  I got home and tried to move the bike and it started to roll.  I was able to move through all the gears fine.  I put it up on the kick and was shifting through the gears without the clutch.  I really don't know much about bikes.  Let me know what you think

Answer
Hi Erik.

You may need the clutch rebuilt.  If you want to do it yourself, it is not difficult, but you will need some very specific tools.  You will also need the repair manual to get the torquing specs as well as detailed instructions on the proceedure.

It could also be an issue with the clutch cable adjustment or even a heat related issue with the clutch or the cable.

If you are not mechanically inclined, then get the bike in to a shop for the repair.

Good luck and ride safe.
