Motorcycle Repair: Loud open belt primary, rear pulley, straight edge

Question
Mike -

Replaced the chain primary drive with a 3" open BDL unit. The primary is now very loud, and seems to be more than just when the clutch is engaged. What else should I be checking, and how do I know everything is properly lined up? The engine is producing about 120 HP & torque and BDL doesn't have outboard bearing support for their FXR model drive.

THANKS!

Answer
Open primarys and dry primarys are a little more noisy than closed ones. When you ingage the clutch, its not running in oil so it will be a little noisy. Check with a straight edge to make sure you have everything lined up. From the rear pulley to the front pulley
Good luck and happy riding
