Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki Intruder 250, suzuki intruder 250, exhaust valves

Question
I have a fairly new Intruder 250 (less than 500kms). I have not ridden it for about 6 weeks, but have periodically started the engine during that period.
The bike is starting easily, however I have taken it for a ride and after it warmed the bike was cutting out, and after about 5 kms it started to splutter and the exhaust discoloured. The interior of the exhaust was glowing red.
What could be the problem

Answer
Hi Michelle.

This sounds like the exhaust valves ae not gapped or timed properly at all.  You could be getting firing when the exhaust valves are open.

Get the bike to the shop immediately and let them go over it.  You could have already damaged the valves, but that will be for them to determine once the have taken a look at it.

Good luck and ride safe.
