Motorcycle Repair: Blinkers, left turn signal, right turn signals

Question
Mike,

Sorry about the confusion.  After re-reading my post, it does sound misleading so let me start at the beginning.

Front blinkers = 2 wire/2 bulb set up, one wire powers running light, 2nd one powers turn signal. There is no 3rd (ground) wire so I assume the circuit completion is through the frame (frame ground)

Rear blinkers = 2 wire/2 bulb set up. I wired one to the red tail light wire so they act a brake lights.  That part works fine. The 2nd wire is soldered to the brown & purple wires for left & right turn signals. As is in the front, the frame acts as the ground.

When I turn on the key, the front running lights light up as well as the headlight & tail light just like they're supposed to. When I depress the right turn signal button on the handlebar controls, the front & rear right side lights light up, but don't blink.  The same happens when I depress the left turn signal button. This leads me to believe that they're wired properly as they light up but don't blink. When I hold down both turn signals to engage the 4 way hazard lights, everything works (IE: all 4 flash).  I thought it might be the turn signal processor under the seat but I slaved that into my wifes 1992 FXDC and everything on her bike worked fine. She also has aftermarket front & rear lights, if that helps. All connections are soldered and heat shrink tube wrapped so I'm pretty sure there's no wires touching anything.

I own a 1993 FXDWG that I changed out the front & rear stock blinkers for custom chrome ones.  both the new front & rear are dual bulbs set ups for use as both runing lights and turn signals. I'm pretty sure they're wired properly as it's only 1 wire to each (frame ground)Here's the problem.

When I engage my turn sugnal switch on the handlebar controls the units light up but don't blink. When I engage the hazard flashers, they (all 4) blink.  I took the flasher circuit out and tested it in my wifes 1992 FXDC and it works fine.  Any ideas ?

I am a little confused by what you said about your wiring. You said there is one wire for each light and you grounded that wire? Where is the buld getting its power from then?
Mike

Answer
Your problem is probaby the bulbs themselves. Many aftermarket light dont draw enough current to make the flasher work. It has to detect so much current draw to flash. There are products out there that you can wire in to increase the draw. Check in your custom chrome catalog.Good luck and happy riding
