Motorcycle Repair: V65 Sabre speedometer, v65 magna, salvage yard

Question
Hey Falcon,
I want to say, off the bat, that I appreciate your time-Thanks before hand!  Now... I have a 1985 VF1100 Sabre Instrument Cluster that I just bought from a salvage yard-(a trash truck backed into my bike and cracked the case and I needed a better one/ $500 ded. on my insurance, and it would cost $750 to get it fixed) It basically looks brand new and everything works, but the speedometer is not going down to zero.  It stays at about 5 mph. Is this an oil problem or can I just set the needle back to zero?  I know that you have a V65 Magna, but I don't know if you have seen this or had the problem yourself. Please email me if you might have an answer.  Thanks again!

Answer
Hi Rick.

I haven't seen your particular problem before.  What you should try to do is to put the guts of the old speedo into the  new housing.  I went through my service manual and could not find anything on the speedo for the 85 Sabre, as far as the issue that you are having.

If the old guts are not usable, then try to reset the needle to zero, but do it carefully.

Sorry I can't help you further.
Good luck and ride safe.
