Motorcycle Repair: Rocker arm gaskets replacement, cardboard type, gasket kit

Question
On my 2001 1200cc custom sportster I would like to replace the paper rocker arm gasket on the front cylinder before it leaks. The rear cylinder has been replaced due to leaking. I have all the gaskets for the front cylinder. One large metal gasket, two large rubber gaskets, one small rubber rectangular gasket and a round rubber gasket or plug type piece about the diameter of a half dollar, plus a cardboard type piece with small punch out pieces about the size of a nickel. Two of these nickel size pieces must have been used on the rear cylinder. I was given the rest of the gasket kit by the dealer. I would like to know how to replace the gaskets myself. How tight to torque the bolts, what type of sealant to use, I'm assuming you would only use it on the metal gasket.  How hard of a job is it, any surprises to watch for when I take off the head. How to prepare everything before I replace the paper gasket with the new metal one. In short could you guide me through tearing it apart and putting it back together again.  I was a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker for 25 years, had to retire because of a severe head injury so the biggest thing I'm lacking is confidence in myself to just tear it apart. Thank you much, Terry

Answer
Its not that tough of a job really and you should be able to do it. My best suggestion would be to get a service manual and in it you will find all the info you need, as well as pictures. It would take forever and alot of typing on here to tell you all the info you need.
If you get stuck let me know and I will help you
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
