Motorcycle Repair: ticking 1200 evolution, sportster custom, hydraulic lifters

Question
My 2006 sportster custom has 1200 miles, and has an obnoxious rocker tick that gets worse as engine speed and engine temp increases. (under load is worse) I just had the 1000 mile service performed, and had synthetic oil installed. I complained to the dealer service dept, and he described the engine as being "on the noisey side" of acceptable, but acceptable. I hear it plain as day at 65mph, over the exhaust and wind noise. It sounds like it has 120,000 miles on the engine, not 1200. It didn't tick like this when it had 3 miles on it. The dealer said it has hydraulic lifters, and the valves cant be adjusted. I just purchased an aftermarket jet kit to repair the lean running quirks of this engine. will making it run richer bring down engine temp, and help aleviate this ticking? My piped have turned blue and orange all the way down to the elbows. is there any other tricks I can do to help this bike shed heat in the valvetrain? Maybe finned valve covers?

Answer
Your dealer is right, its the hydraulic units that are ticking. Putting in the jet kit wont help or the finned valve covers. The only thing you can do is change the units to stop the ticking. Try complaning to harley itself, not he dealer and you might get somthing done
Good luck and happy riding
