Motorcycle Repair: Harley clutch, xlh sportster, clutch cable

Question
I have a 1988 883cc Harley XLH sportster. Can you tell me how to adjust the clutch?

Answer
Locate the adjuster on the clutch cable. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster until the cable gets shorter. Now remove the clutch cover on the primary. You need to have to bike sitting upright so you dont lose any trans fluid. Under the cover you will see a spring and a nut. Remove them and under that you will see another nut with a screw unside it. Slowly turn the screw just until it seats. Now turn it outward about 1/8 of a turn. Put he other nut back ona nd the spring and the cover. Now adjust the clutch cable until you have about 1/8 play in the clutch lever. Tighten the locknut and your ready to go.
Good luck and happy riding
