Motorcycle Repair: gear shift for 1984 V65 Magna, v65 magna, easy job

Question
Falcon,
After storing my bike over the winter I attempted to get it out for the well waited  spring ride. The bike started easy and had been started over the winter a few times to keep fluids moving. It was kept in neutral for storage. After starting the bike and allowing it to warm up I attempted to shift into gear but was unsuccessful. The shift will not move in either direction but was in good condition when it was stored. I have not yet dug into the housing to see what is bound if anything at all. The only erratic noises that occurred during the winter was the starter spinning and not engaging whe it was extremely cold. What are some areas I should look at first to minimize a teardown of the motor?

Answer
Hi Brett.

Did the clutch feel normal when you engaged it or was it abnormally stiff or loose?
These symptoms indicate a possible need to rebuild the clutch, which is an easy job to do and only takes about 30 - 60 minutes.

What other things have you noticed, that would be mechanically related to the transmission and clutch?

Let me know.
Good luck and ride safe.
