Question
Hi Chris

I have a 1981 Yamaha 650 Maxim and I am getting good spark and gas to the cylinder but it wont fire.

Ive checked the fuses, the spark plugs, I have a good battery and I have put high test gas in, and it will turn over, but wont fire.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Candice.

Have you checked the valve gap and timing?  How do you know that you are getting fuel to the cylinders?  What did you do to check it?  Is it right?  How about Compression?  Are the plugs firing?

A lack of compression or a failure of the plugs to fire will cause the engine to not run.

Plug failure could be due to bad coils, bad wiring from power to the coils or a blown ignition fuse.

Test all electrical systems and components in accordance with the proceedures and specs in the repair manual.

Check all of that and let me know what you find.
Good luck and ride safe.
