Motorcycle Repair: 1984 Honda night hawk, honda night hawk, loud pipes

Hey chris i was just curious if i could take the baffold out of my exhaust on the 1984 honda night hawk. Do you know if that would be illigal or not. And if no do you know how i remove them

Hi Michael.

It is ALWAYS illegal to remove the baffles.  It is also very bad for the bike because it changes the back compression which requires proper retuning of the engine.  That is something that only a properly trained mechanic can do right.

Contrary to popular propoganda; Loud pipes DO NOT save lives.  They do, however, annoy the neighbors as well as draw all sorts of unwanted attention from the police.

 If you insist on having loud pipes, then find some that are aftermarket for your bike.  They will be legal.
