Motorcycle Repair: No start when warm, starts when cools down, motor brushes, carbon powder

Question
Mark,
I have an '86 Honda VT100 that runs great. Problem is that when it has fully warmed up, if I shut it off it will not restart until it has cooled completely, (like overnight). It acts like there is absolutely no power to the ignition switch.  Push the button: NOTHING.  No clicking, no starter motor action. Pat@alexanderagency.biz

Answer
Hi Pat,

Inspect and measure the length the starter motor brushes for wear. Inspect the motor for excessive build-up of carbon powder.

Replace brushes if worn beyond service limits. Clean starter motor accordingly.

Otherwise, I recommend having a local tech inspect the problem for you.

Respectfully,
