Motorcycle Repair: carburator, kawasaki kz440, cylinder compression

Question
Mark - thanks for you help with my carb idling problem on my 1982 Kawasaki kz440 ltd.  Engine idles fine now.

However, now when it's idling I get a spitting  (detonation) back thru the carbs on the intake side - what's up with this?  I appreciate your help on this one.

Answer
Carb regursion is caused by a bit of compression leaking out of the cylinder via intake valve. [sic]

Check cylinder compression and valve clearances. Adjust or repair accordingly. Boith must be within specs for carbs to function properly.

Worn valve face/seat, carbon build up on valve, improper valve cam timing, or weak valve springs may contribute to regursion.
