Motorcycle Repair: oil plug/filter, oil drain plug, oil plug

Chris - I have a 1980 Yamaha 650 Special.  I cant for the life of me find the oil plug...if there even is one.  Is there an oil filter?  Maybe u can enlighten me on this?  Thanks.

Hi Mike.

First thing to do is to get the repair manual.

Next, there is an oil drain plug and oil filter.  Every engine does.  The drain plug is right at the lowest point on the engine and the oil filter is almost always at the bottom front of the bike.  It will be either a spin-on type, like the family car, or it will be inside of a case that is bolted to the bike in the bottom front center of the engine.
