Hi Mike, i just installed a 1550 kit regular flat top pistons and stock ported heads, all hd parts on my 02 low rider. I start the bike cold and it runs great for about 10 to 15 seconds and its all down hill form there. It stumbles and with the choke pulled completely out it wont stay running without working the throttle and dies. Then i start it back up and fight to keep it running.I rev it up to 2500 rpm and it wont smooth out, it still has a slight miss. All the top end gaskets are new and i didnt do anything to the carb. The bike was dynoed last summer when it was 1450cc carb mod and bassani pipes and ran great. I was leaning towards a manifold gasket leaking? They are new, the gasket that the carb slips into is used. Thanks, Chris

Did you change cams or change the timing any?
Mike
No other changes were made. Chris

When you replaced the pistons did you bleed the hydrolic units? Also, do you have adjustable pushrods?
Mike
I did not bleed or install adjustable pushrods. Thanks Chris

It sounds like you have a valve that is not closing all the way causing your problem.
Lift the rear wheel off the ground. Remove the clips on the pushrod covers and slide the covers so you can see the pushrods. Rotate the motor so that the front exhaust valve is open or the pushrod is pushed up. Now let it sit for about 15 minutes. Now rotate the motor and do the same for the intake. Do this for each valve and then pu the clips back in. Now start the bike.
Let me know if this helps
Mike
It seems to have worked, i put 100 miles on it and it hasnt blown up yet. Thanks for the help. I was thinking about putting the andrews 490 lift gear drive cams in and was wondering if i still need to use adjustable pushrods if i pull the rocker covers off instead of cutting them out and basically as i understand it i just have to have somebody press the bearings out and install new ones, then i the plumber/weekend wrencher can do everything else. Thanks again mike   Chris

Answer
Glad you got it working. I have seen people that dont bleed the lifters and hit a valve on the piston!
You dont have to use adjustable pushrods if you want to pull the rocker boxes and rocker arms. Its just more convenent to put int he adjustables
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
