Motorcycle Repair: fuel problem, float bowls, ninja 600

Question
I have a 1989 ninja 600 that runs fine for about 2 miles,then it starts to act up like its running out of gas.If you stop and let it sit for a couple of minutes it will do the same thing.Could this be a fuel filter problem or something else?

Hi Scott.

You definitely have a fuel flow problem.  Check the entire system from tank to carbs and make sure that there is no blockage.  If you have a disposable fuel filter installed, then replace it with a new one.  Also drain some fuel from the float bowls and see if there is residue or water.  Use a clean, dry glass jar to drain the fuel into to visually check for both.
 Water will look like bubbles in the bottom of the fuel and resudue will be pretty obvious.
