Question
Hello Chris,
I resently bought a Hungdou 125 CG which is a Honda copy. The year of the bike is 2005. Owned for 3 weeks now. what daily/monthly maintenance should i be carring out? So far i have being checking the oil level and some of the bolts on it had come lose.
When i bought the bike i was told that it had just had a full service, but already i've clocked up 500 miles!
Any help would be very helpfull for the long liverty of the bike. Thanks

Answer
Hi Dave.

Since the bike has already reached the 500 mile mark, then it is due for it's break-in servicing.  They will do a full replacement of the oil/filter, check/change the spark plugs, adjust the valves, etc. to make sure that the bike is running right.

You need to get that done immediately to insure better operation of the bike in the future as well as to avoid potential mechanical issues.

Next, you need to get the repair manual.  It is worth it's weight in gold.

As far as service, the repair manual (the owner's manual as well) should have the maintainence schedule in it.

Check engine bolts and chain at least once a week if you ride the bike often.  Adjust the chain as needed (specs are in the repair manual).

Most bikes require an oil change every 2,000 to 3,000 miles or 3-6 months, whichever comes first.  Air filter should be changed every 6 months to 1 year, depending on frequency of usage.

All of that info and detailed specs, test proceedures, et al will be in the repair manual, but this info should tide you over till you can get the repair manual.  If you cannot find one for that specific bike, then the Honda repair manual, for the bike that it is a copy of, should do well enough.

Good luck and ride safe.
