Motorcycle Repair: HELP!!!, yamaha virago, japanese bikes

Question
Hi Chris,

Hope you can help?

I just bought a Lifan GY 125, from ebay (probably a mistake).
Anyway, it came in a box 75% built, but now I have assembled it,
it will not start.  No lights come on when I turn the ignition on,
but they do when I try to kick it over and the ignition is on.
There is however one wire on the electrics that remains
unconnected.  I cant for the life of me see where it connects too.
Its a flat metal plug about an inch wide.  ASlso when I kick it
over it makes a high pitched squeel.  please help.  Many Thanks,

Steve Anderson

Answer
Hi Steve.

In 25 years of being involved and riding motorcycles, I have never even heard of a Lifan before today.  I had to look it up on the web (they're based in China, btw) and by the look of what I found, the bikes they sell are all Chinese copies of Japanese bikes.  (The cruiser that they show on their homepage is an exact copy of the Yamaha Virago 700)

What you will want to do is to contact the manufacturer and order a repair manual for the bike.  If they have an assembly manual for it, then get one of those as well, but the repair manual is critical.

The website is www.americanlifan.com/lifan/lifan.html and that will have some info on the machine itself.

Sorry I can't help you further, but when you deal with, What is, here in the U.S., rare machines like that then information will just not be out there like you might hope.

Good luck and ride safe.
