Motorcycle Repair: Tether Cord Installation, 4 stroke engines, yamaha rx1

Question
Hello,
I'm trying to hook-up a tether cord on my Yamaha RX1 snomobile. It's a 4 stroke with a battery and ignition.
Problem: The tether cord has 2 wires; I hooked these in "series" with the "hot" wire coming from the kill switch/button on the handle bars.  What happened is when I put the rubber button, with cord on "connector", it stopped the engine.  "Just the opposite" of what is suppose to happen.  Example put tether cord on; if you fall off it "kill's" the engine.
What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to hook one wire to a hot and one to ground.  It shouldn't matter if it's a snowmobile or ATV if they are both 4-stroke engines with a battery.

Please Advise,
Thanks,
Jarod

Answer
Hi Jarod,

Connect the tether kill switch to the ignition on/off switch wiring, or to the ignition coil primary winding wiring.
