Motorcycle Repair: Honda CL175, rotor assembly, center screw

Question
I have another question for you, my husband would like to know where the oil filter is (if there is one!) and how to change it.  Thanks again for your help.

Answer
Carolyn....  You can check the illustration of a similar model, the CB200T when you go to http://www.powersportspro.com/partsfish/login.asp

Sign up and add a vehicle... HONDA motorcycle... CB200T, then right crankcase cover. The CB200 is an offshoot design that originated with the CB160-175s series, so many design features are similar.

The filter is a centrifugal unit that runs off the end of the crankshaft. There is a long phillips head screw that holds the outer rotor cap in place, which is also sealed with an O-ring around the edge. As I recall you have to screw a larger bolt through the hole and that will press it out of the outer rotor housing. Pack some rags around the edges of the rotor to seal the area to the case, then get in there with some scribes and some carb spray or WD40 or some kind of similar cleaner and scrub out the old dirt and debris that has built up inside. Oil the O-ring, if it is still okay and then reassemble using the original center screw to draw the cover down inside the rotor assembly.

I would recommend getting appropriate repair manuals, which are generally available and have most of the procedures in black and white for you and your husband.
