Motorcycle Repair: Battery not charging?, trickle charger, motorcycle repair

I have a Kawasaki KZ750H, 1981, which I have just completed restoring but I'm having a problem with charging the battery.  I'm putting it on a trickle charger which completely charges the battery but for some reason the charge isn't maintained during use.  I've fitted a new battery but this hasn't solved the problem, have been told it might be the rectifyer or the alternator.  Is there an easy way of checking what could be causing the problem or do you know which one is most likely to be the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bryan,

An output test will determine the condition of the charging system. The procedure is easy to perform.
