Motorcycle Repair: spark plugs + rattle in engine, shively ohio, suzuki bandit

Question
Hi Mark

I have a Suzuki Bandit 600cc and have just changed the spark plugs - I installed them ok, but  - when I turn on the engine it starts but seems a bit weak ! When I listen to the engine there is a slight rattle noise - on the outside cylinders only - it is a very slight noise and i don't no if it was there prior to changing the spark plugs -

Do you have any comments or ideas ? From my manual it would suggest the spark plugs are loose - What do you think ?

Many thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Ciaran,

I doubt that the spark plugs are the source of the noises.

Some clicking and tapping is considered normal engine noises.

Check valve clearances and adjust accordingly. Loose or excessive valve clearances may cause tapping or clicking noises. The cam timing chain, guides, and tensioner may cause noises.

Have a local tech inspect the noises for you.
