Motorcycle Repair: 1996 GSXR 1100 17,000kms, k n air filter, header pipe

Question
Hi Chris. Remember my hesitation/stuttering problem? Still there. Ran 2 STP's through it with a couple of tanks of 94 and no good. Still feels as if it's running on 3 cyl from take-off, and after 5000rpm.

-I've cleaned the carbs twice, spotless
-washed out the tank, spotless
-checked/cleaned the petcock filter/diaphram
-replaced the fuel lines
-cleaned the K&N air filter

Please let me know where to go from here, thanks Chris, Dallas

Answer
Hi Dallas.

How is the spark from the cylinders?  Are they all still showing bright blue or do any look weaker than the others?

Have you checked compression?  It is possible that something decided to fail at just this time, leading to the impression that the problem was related to the storage of the bike.

Another thing which would give that kind of symptom would be a leak at the header pipe connections due to loosened connections (most likely) or failed exhaust manifold seals (least likely).

It's really difficult to come up with possibilities now, without going into the realm of possible parts failures in the engine itself.  And based on what you've told me about the bike, shouldn't be happening, anyway.

Start with the things I've suggested and see what you find.

Good luck and ride safe.
