Motorcycle Repair: Swapping gas tanks, honda cb 900, honda nighthawk

My question is pretty simple, but I cant seem to find decent measurements to know for sure. I have a beatup 91 Honda Nighthawk CB 750 that is in need of a gas tank. i could go out and get a tank for this model, no problem. But I found a good deal on a tank for a Honda CB 900 F 919. The 900's tank is just a little sicker and might look good on the Nighthawk. What I was wondering is, would you know if these tanks connect in the same way and would be easily interchangeable? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Will.

Most Hondas have a similar type mounting bracket, but I kind of doubt that a 900F tank would be a good match for Nighthawk, only because the two bikes have different frame layouts and therefore the mounting points will likely be different.

To be honest, the only way to be sure is to take measurements from the bike and both tanks' mounting points.  See if they match up.  If you go to a dealership and talk to one of the mechanics or the service manager, they should also be able to tell you for certain as well.
