Motorcycle Repair: Choke, xr70r, fuel line

Question
I've got a 2003 xr70r honda running, but only if the choke is on.  As soon as the choke is turned off it dies.  I can keep it running with throttle but it sputters and quits.  I've tried to lean and richin with the needle but it still quits no matter how rich or lean.  Why?

Answer
Hi Ty.

If the bike has been sitting for a long time, then start by cleaning the carb, fuel line and fuel tank.  After that, make sure that the idle speed is set correctly and the timing and valve gap are correct.

Start with those and see what you find.

Good luck and ride safe.
