Motorcycle Repair: not starting, honda vtx, jumper cables


Question
I have a 2004 honda vtx I havn't used it for a couple of month when i went to start it the battery was dead i charged it. it started but by accident the cables touched and now all it does is crank but not start every thing works of the elecrtical it just wont start i checked all the fuses but still nothing it has 1200 miles never really used can u help if so i really apreciate  it thanks...

Rick, the arcing could have damaged the CDI control module somehow. Pull a spark plug and lay it on the head with the plug wire attached and check for spark. If not, then the ignition system has a malfunction.

I would double check all the fuses and be sure that they are all okay. Some models have fusible links that are near the starter solenoid, but when those go out everything quits. I'm not sure I understand your comment about the cables touching... jumper cables or battery charger cables or wiring harness cables...? It is NOT a good idea to jump start motorcycles with car batteries, etc. Too much current will fry the battery cells.

Be sure that the KILL switch is in the RUN or ON position, of course.....

Sounds like it needs a trip to the Honda Hospital...
