First of all thank you for taking the time for this awsome service. I have a 02 FLHT, 17,000 miles. Original Battery and spark plug wires. Problem is when starting cold or warm, Engine cranks normal for a few seconds..if it don't start the starter makes a grinding noise. Some times it starts right up,others a few tries with the grindining noise towards the end, I have put a Fuel system cleaner in the tank would that effect the electr. starting ?

Follow up PLEASE..Have a factory HD Stero in fairing, Notice a breaking up/muffled, kinda drop in volume. Power is consistent, radio does not shut off or lose power. HELP ?

THANK YOU !

When you hear he grinding noise, is the bike still turning over?
As to the radio, you would have to take the radio to a dealer. What they do is send them in to have them tested for the problem.

Answer
Your grinding noise might be coming from either the starter jackshaft or the starter itsself. To get to the jackshaft you have to remove the primary cover, motor sprocket and clutch assembly. If its ok then pull the starter, and you would have to inspect the bearings and starter clutch.
Good luck and happy riding
