Motorcycle Repair: Hi Chris, The rear brake..., rear brake caliper, yamaha fj1200

Question
Hi Chris,
The rear brake caliper on my 1993 Yamaha FJ1200 leaks fluid from the top upon brake application. The pistons are fine. I've split the caliper and found two channels through which the brake fluid flows from one side of the caliper to the piston on the other side. These channels are protected by two neoprene washers and my local dealer does not list these washers nor do they seem to be in the caliper piston rebuild kit. Any suggestions on where to get these washers or is this the time for a whole new caliper? Thank you in advance.
Best,
Vic

Answer
Hi Vic.

If the washers that you mentioned are not available through the dealer (NLA or not showing on their diagrams) then you may want to consider just replacing the caliper.  The washers may not show up for a reason known only to the manufacturer.

Just replace the caliper and be done with the worries.

Good luck and ride safe.
