Motorcycle Repair: starting after 3-4 years, honda sabre, brake calipers

Question
Buying a honda sabre 750 v45 that has been sitting for 3-4 years and need to know what steps I should take to get it started. The fuel tank is empty but not sure if the bike was run out of gas before it sat.

Answer
Hi Kendrick,

Check fuel tanks for evidence of rust and varnished fuel. If necessary, rplace tanks or repair with Red-Kote tank sealant. I don't use or recommend Kreem tank repair products. Parts about $50. Labor about $100 is farmed out to a shop.

Remove, partially disassemble, and thoroughly clean carburetors. Repalce any worn or defective parts. Synchonize carbs after reinstalled on engine. Parts about $100 if needed. Labor about $300 if by shop.

New battery $50. May need new tires $200. Rubber brake lines may have dry-rotted $??.

Fluids changed Fork oil, final drive oil, oil/filter, coolant, $50 to $80 for parts. Labor $150 or so.

Clean and rebuild gummed brake calipers, replace caliper seals, clean and rebuild gummed master cylinders, and flush brake fluid: parts $75, labor $100.

New spark plugs $15.
