Motorcycle Repair: Gear Shift Lever, suzuki vl800, adjustment screw

Question
Hi Chris, I've recently installed floorboards on my 2003 Suzuki VL800.  The gear shift lever is sitting so close to the board that I can barely get my toe underneath it.  Can the lever be adjusted up, towards the gas tank?  I've tried the adjustment screw but the lever hasn't moved at all.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Greg.

What you may want to do is to check the position of the gearshift arm (the part attached to the gearshift spindle on the bike side of the shifter assembly) and see if it is positioned correctly.
You could have it positioned too far back.  Simply adjust it foreward a little bit and that should solve the problem.

Good luck and ride safe.
