Motorcycle Repair: Honda CBR 600 F Hurricane, honda cbr 600, mail order catalogs

Question
I'm getting my bike repaired from a local mechanic, and just wanted to know if you knew the average costs for repair for:

Carbon cleaning, new forks, brakes?

Also, how can find more info on repairing bikes myself?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Ollie.

As far as cost of repairs, it depends on the shop, but the average is 30 dollars an hour plus parts.  As far as each thing, some shops have a set rate for certain jobs (like brakes) and some do not.  There is nothing further that I can tell you, definitively, about that.

As far as repairing the bike yourself, you will need the repair manual, all of the proper tools, a workspace that allows you to leave parts safely over time (in case you have to order parts), and of course some aptitude toward things mechanical.  Start with tools, the repair manual and space (I am presuming that you have at least some aptitude already).

You can get a repair manual for your bike from a dealership or online at www.repairmanuals.com as well as in a few of the mail order catalogs.

There are also some repair courses out there, but you need to hunt around for them.  There are books about the subject as well through most of the major book stores.

Good luck and ride safe.
